Yeah he did, my assertion was that a guy with a bad batting line will be in the lineup with Francoa managing, chances are he'll be paying it back elsewhere.

Helms actually came to mind when thinking of Benson. Saw enough of him growing up, and always said Helms couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag (lol). He then becomes a hitting coach. I guess it ws "do as I say, not as I do". Met him several years ago at Redsfest with Lee May.

How much of a burden (pressure) does Tito now have on him as the Red's skipper? How much of a grace period are the fans going to give him, if any?

Lee May is the type of player I hope CES turns into.

Mark Sheldon has reported that all three Reds hitting coaches have been sacked. Those would be Joel McKeithan, Terry Bradshaw and Tim LaMonte,

Terry Bradshaw? He was a good QB but I doubt he knew anything about hitting. No wonder the Reds struggled in the hitting department.

Good. That should have happened 5 months ago.

So the Reds had three hitting coaches. Offense, defense and special teams?

    Seems like a perfect comp.

May could be counted on. He'd miss 9-16 games every year for 11 years in a row. That's pretty dependable.

With the low OBP and with Pitchers no longer hitting, he's a perfect #6 hitter. Get some guys in front of him with higher OBP's and guys in the #4 and #5 spots who have both power and a higher OBP. If there isn't someone available with a higher OBP AND power, then move him up to the 5th spot.

Re: Terry Francona is the Reds' new manager

It's like any business. You give a guy a title to justify a raise so he doesn't leave for another team. Usually it doesn't change the responsibilities much. I've worked for companies that had Directors, VPs and Assistant VPs who were just staff members with no one reporting to them. They weren't anyone's boss, but got the title so they could get a pay increase rather than being lost to the competition.

I think that is why GM is now Head of Baseball Operations and assistant GMs are GMs and Department Managers are assistant GMs etc. It's simply to provide upward mobility so the best guys don't leave.
All my posts are my opinion - just like yours are. If I forget to state it and you're too dense to see the obvious, look here!
