Minor League Game Thread 4/28/24 SUNDAY

LOUISVILLE - The Bats are up and running early today, and the results are less than spectacular so far. They trail 5-0.

On the bump, is Forrest Roa. You never know what you're going to get. This is one of those chocolates that you bite into and immediately spit out. He has allowed 5 runs in 2 innings. 3 hits, 3 walks and a HBP.

Livan Soto and Connor Capel have each singled for Louisville. Soto is OPSing 1.096 in nearly 70 plate appearances. Capel's OPS stands at .996 in over 100 PA.

Blake Dunn is making his 2nd consecutive start.

LOUISVILLE RECAP - Louisville rallied a bit in the middle innings, but were never really in it. They fall 7-4.

Christian Roa with a not-so-good start. 6 runs (5 of them earned) in 4 innings.
Yosver Zulueta blanked them for an inning, as did Casey Legumina, Brooks Kriske, Justin Bruihl and Tony Santillan. Santillan struck out the side.
Evan Kravetz faced 3 hitters and they all reached.
    All-in-all, a solid bullpen performance.

Livan Soto reached base 3 times - 2 singles and a walk.
    Mike Ford singled and walked.
    Edwin Rios doubled and walked.
    Peyton Burdick singled and walked.
Connor Capel rolls on - a single and two walks.
    Mark Trautwein 2 walks.

Dayton lost but they got some lumber.

    - - - Updated - - -

Reds might want to be thinking about Ford, Burdick, Capel. Someone for a short trial until Friedl gets back.

DAYTON RECAP - The Dragons fell behind early, rallied in the 9th with 3 runs to send the game into extras, but then were out-ghosted in the 10th to fall 10-9.

Pitching was the downfall for Dayton as 4 of the 5 hurlers on the day gave up runs.
Javi Rivera might want to think about moving to the pen. 7.24 ERA as a starter in 2024.
Pedro Alfonseca has an ERA around 10, and is 26 in High-A. Not good. He is passionate though. Ejected by ump in 7th inning.
John Murphy is even older at 27. ERA 5.79. Not good.
Easton Sikorski is 24. ERA 7.50. Not good.
What is with all these relatively old relievers in High-A?
Luis Mey breaks that mold. 22. 3.12 ERA. 2 hitless innings with 3 Ks.

Field day for the hitters today. To no avail.
Jay Allen II goes 5 for 6. 4 singles, a double and a stolen base. His OPS jumped due this effort. 1.114.
Hector Rodriguez reached base 4 times. 2 singles, a double and a walk.
Cam Cameron flexing some muscles with a double and a homer (7). His slugging percentage is .616.
Cade Hunter tossed in a single and a walk.
Leonardo Balcazar singled twice and walked. 7 hits in his last 14 at-bats.

CHATTANOOGA RECAP - The Lookouts are struggling in major fashion to start the season. Their records stands at 5-15 after today's 5-1 beatdown.

Thomas Farr struck out 6 in 5 innings. Unfortunately, he also allowed 9 hits, walked a batter and hit a batter.
    Jacob Heatherly was good today: 2 IP, 0 R, 4 K.
Braxton Roxby surrendered a solo shot in his 2 stanzas.

Austin Hendrick doubled and walked. He is striking out 42.8% of the time this year. That has been his calling card since being drafted. Doesn't look as if it will ever change.
    Allan Cerda singled and walked.
    Daniel Vellojin singled and walked.

James Free retired yesterday. Career OPS of .755. Not that bad. Best of luck.

Chattanooga has scored 55 runs in 20 games. Ouch! And that includes an 11-run outburst in 1 game. Take that away and they are pushing across 2.3 runs per game.

So is Jay Allen a real prospect now because if so that would be pretty nice. He'll be 21 all of this season so he's still pretty young. Collier is the same age as the top prep guys who were drafted last year and none of them are in A+ yet much less dominating the league.

DAYTONA RECAP - Trailing 7-2 as they stretched in the 7th, Daytona closed with a rush to snatch an 8-7 victory from the jaws of defeat.

Brian Edgington with his 5th straight stellar start, went 4 innings. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned), while striking out 5.
The pen got shaky for awhile after that. Gabe Starks let 2 runs cross the plate in 3 innings. Simon Miller, saying 'hold my beer', did that 1 better, allowing 3 runs in 2 innings.
Alexander Johnson then set the oppo down in order in the top of the 9th.

Meanwhile, back at the plate, Yerlin Confidan singled and doubled.
Donovan Pitelli walked and got plunked by a pitch.
Esmith Pineda walked and left the park for the 1st time this season.
    Carlos Sanchez singled twice.
Carter Graham singled twice as well.
