I think Krall is the best GM the Reds have had in a long long time.
WHEN DOES IT STOP!?!?

Sam Moll Left as the Odd Man Out

The Reds have optioned Sam Moll, who hasn’t allowed a run this year and posted a 0.73 ERA with the Reds last year.
Moll was one of three Reds relievers with options (the other two are Diaz and Cruz). Any other reliever would have had to be DFAd.
Moll has looked strong in his two weeks of action. He had yet to allow a run over his five games pitched. But coming off a left shoulder injury, it could be possible he isn’t quite 100 percent.
Across all three pitches Moll throws, the four-seam, sinker, and sweeper, he has seen a decrease in velocity for all three.
He is averaging roughly three miles an hour slower than he was throwing last year. Perhaps a trip to the minor leagues could help gain his velocity back.

If I'm Sam Moll I'm furious. But this move doesn't surprise me at all. I've pointed this out in game threads a few times. Maybe it was due to his velocity being down some. But for whatever reason they didn't seem to trust Moll in close games this year. They went with Wilson over him more often than not. Those two are similar.
Personally I think Moll pitched way over his head last year as a Red. He wasn't nearly as good in Oakland. I think he had some luck on his side.
But it's still tough to send a guy down who has barely given up a run in his half season plus as a red luck or not.
Another way to look at this. For once the Reds had a tough pitching desicion to make. In that none of the pitchers really deserved to be sent down. Well except for Pagan. But you aren't going to send down a guy you just signed after a tough month. I think Pagan is serviceable if used in the right spots. He isn't a good fit for the Reds though.
But they have a tough time getting free agents to sign as it is. They don't want to get the reputation of releasing players after a bad month. Players see that and will be even less apt to sign if a team has the one bad month and you're released reputation.

Players with options are always in play for roster manipulation, relief pitchers more than others, it's probably a good idea for a LH specialist to keep some clothes in each city is my guess
If you have a sense of urgency about winning this season, with the recent slump and tough immediate schedule, you don’t send Moll down.
I’ve always felt that Reds #1 goal is still rebuilding. That 2024 is a little soon to expect a top ballclub. If that’s the concept, then it doesn’t matter too much which reliever gets sent down.
But Moll is very effective, he was last year, he is so far this year, and the move seems inconsistent with winning in 2024. Again, I have no sympathy for the FO being squeezed by roster and option considerations. You find a way to keep your best guys on the big league team.
At some point - last year's trading deadline, the offseason, the lack of moves this season - it become pretty apparent that the Reds (front/office/investors/management) has no urgency about winning. I'm sure the players do, but the organization does not.
So the best transaction news for the day, is one of our best relievers is optioned to AAA and we are keeping two dead weight backups on the big club. Underwhelming to put it mildly

Freaking Bubba was didn’t even get Louisville. They punted him straight to Tha ‘Nooga.
“The crows seem to be calling my name,” thought Caw.
Such a happy day. Lineup looks like the 27 Yankees compared to the last two weeks.
