Minor League Game Thread 4/10/24 WEDNESDAY

LOUISVILLE - After winning their first two starts of the season, Louisville has since dropped 6 of 7, including the last 4 in succession. They are playing daytime baseball today, and Brett Kennedy is on the mound for the Bats. He has retired the Clippers in the top of the first.

The Louisville lineup looks rather anemic today. Connor Capel is hitting .333 on the year. No one else is hitting over .250. It's early, granted, but the team is OPSing .664 this year. Last year, the team as a whole, OPSd .853. The Kinks said it best: Where have all the good times gone? It's Baseball Bingo today.

Columbus has rehabbing Xzavion Curry on the mound.

Blake Dunn has walked to lead things off for Louisville in the home half of the 1st. An F9 and 2 Ks. Inning over.

NOTE: Ian Gibaut will be on a rehab assignment for Louisville starting the 10th.

The rest of the action will be later on tonight.

CHATTANOOGA - The team is looking for its 1st win here in 2024. They stand at 0-3. The Lookouts were rained out last night, but are only playing a single game on Wednesday. It is Dogs at the Diamone today, which, I assume is no comment on the team itself. $7 to purchase a Pooch Pass. The four-legged fans will be enjoying themselves on the Budweiser Party Deck. It is Opening Day for Chattanooga, and kids will be allowed to run the bases after the game.

LOUISVILLE - The Bats trail 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 7th inning.

    Brett Kennedy was nails today: 6 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER 2 BB, 3 K.
Ian Gibaut entered in the 7th and exited in the 7th. He went .2 IP, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits. He also hit a batter and struck out a batter.

Rece Hinds doubled. Levi Jordan singled and left the yard (1). A lot of unproductive singles mixed in. Mike Ford had 2 of them.

Blake Dunn came out of the game in the top of the 7th.

LOUISVILLE - Louisville rallies late to win in extra innings.

After the Gibaut meltdown, Justin Bruihl holds the fort for 2.1 scoreless innings.
Tony Santillan pitches a 1-2-3 10th inning to score the win.

In the bottom of the 9th, Alex McGarry works a leadoff walk, and is sacrificed to 2nd by Quincy McAfee. Levi Jordan then rockets a line drive to left to tie the score at 2 apiece.
In the 10th, Mike Ford starts the inning in a ghostly manner at 2nd. PJ Higgins then fouls off 7 consecutive 3-2 pitches before singling in the walk-off run.

Louisville has improved its season's record to 5-6.

DAYTON - Dayton enters today's contest on a 3-game winning streak. Their overall record is 3-1. They take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels.

RHP Johnathan Harmon will be making his season's debut. Harmon is a lanky 6'5" out of Hornbeck, Louisiana. Harmon went to Leesville High. He played collegiately at Northwestern University in the Pelican State. If you have ever been to Hornbeck, I guarantee you were lost. The population is under 500. Leesville is considered the big city in that neck of the woods, and it checks it at around 5,000. Surprisingly, Leesville has had one NFL hall-of-famer come out of it. Kevin Mawae, who was an offensive lineman for the Buffalo Bills. It turns out that Harmon's father was a big fan of the Reds Nasty Boys. Small world, right? https://crescentcitysports.com/johna...ncinnati-reds/

It has only been 4 games, but the Dragons are domination the MWL offensive stats. The Dragons lead the Midwest League in runs scored with 22 (MWL average is 12.7). The Dragons also lead the league in home runs (6), slugging percentage (.432; MWL average is .305), total bases, and OPS (.767; MWL average is .618). The Dragons have hit two home runs in three consecutive games. Only two of the other 11 MWL teams have hit more than two home runs in 2024

DAYTONA - The Tortugas are at even .500 through 4 games as they head into Belly Buster Wednesday. For $6 you can feast upon Little Caesar's pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers and popcorn. It's BYOPB (Bring Your Own Pepto Bismol).

I have not a single clue who will be on the mound tonight, but it would be most excellent if he hurled like Juan Martinez did last night. Martinez, out of the pen, tossed 4 scoreless innings, while striking out 7 Ratbirds. Martinez was assigned to Daytona early in the day, and made a sparkling first impression. Daytona must be piggybacking their starters as they show 6 pitchers that have worked exactly 4.0 innings, with another one at 3.1 innings pitched.

On the stick side of things, Dominic Pitelli is off to a scorching start. Pitelli is hitting .500 with 3 doubles and a triple. His OPS is 1.304.

Despite scoring the winning run, I doubt Mike Trautwein will be asked to be a pinch runner much in his career.

Re: Minor League Game Thread 4/10/24 WEDNESDAY

CHATTANOOGA - The Lookouts jumped out to a 1-run lead in the first, but Hunter Parks gave that run back plus 2 more in the 2nd. Lookouts trail 3-1in the 4th.

Hunter Parks was ineffectively wild tonight. 3 hits, 5 walks, 1 homer and 3 runs as he pitched into the 4th. Parks was already up to 87 pitches, and was replaced by Eddy Demurias.

Chattanooga just plated a run in the 4th, but had the tying run erased at the plate. So far, they have singles by Jose Torres, Tyler Callihan and Matheu Nelson. Austin Callahan has doubled home a run.

DAYTONA - The Tortugas and the Ratbirds are playing a raggedy brand of ball tonight as they have committed 6 errors between themselves.

Jose Franco, who missed all of last season, went 4 frames, and put up a shiny line. 4 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K.
Anyer Laureano gave up a run in one inning on the mound.
Nick Sando is making his pay-for-play debut and been touched up for just one unearned run over 2.2 innings.

    Carlos Sanchez has singled twice.
Alfredo Duno has a double in 4 trips.
Jack Moss doubled in 3 plate appearances.
