Camper Van Beethoven is so that, violins, guitars, stomps and rock. First time I saw them was at the 1985 Haight Street Fair playing on the back of flatbed truck, a loud and long version of Pink Floyd's Interstellar Overdrive, just a weird band that wouldn't get heard today

I went on a family cruise ( I am NOT a cruise guy) I was bored and not enjoying the crowds, There was a BM tribute guy who played one night and he was great, great like that time I saw Redd Kross at the Fillmore. Completely flipped my switch

I would be more on the thumbs up side for Manilow just because I've always been a sucker for sappy love songs, and he had some good ones. Copa Cabana was not oner of those, though. Hated it.

I have the same perspective as yours on the band, but one song of theirs - “strawberry swing” is a favorite. West African guitars, shimmering Brian Eno productiion in a Coldplay song? I like it even better covered by Frank Ocean, who pours on the nostalgia in his singing.
