I left that movie feeling bad for Will's son... he was not ready for that and it might have harpooned any chances he had after that.

So I just saw that they have made a "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead" remake and have to ask why? The trailer seems to show the movie running a similar plot line/arc as the original, which was a fun movie. Maybe redoing it 30 years later will make the produces/studios money, I don't really know, buy I see no real reason to pay money to see it in the theater. If its streaming on something I already have, sure I'd give it a shot cause I enjoyed the original; just doesn't seem like a story that could really be improved upon with modern movie making ability

It's just because a company owns the property. They figure it's easier and cheaper to remake something they already own than risk an investment on a new idea.
I don't think it works most of the time. Most remakes/reboots seem to fail. That doesn't seem to stop them from doing it though.
